Has anyone ever converted Traveler to a Tiger? If so, what were ball park costs? Thanks

Air Mods NW had an STC, but Ken Blackman passed away. IIRC the spar needed to be changed so probably not cheap. Maybe call Fletchair?

I have not heard of that. Cheetah conversions are viable because the airframe is essentially identical to the Tiger. The Traveler has a smaller elevator, so I don't know if it can provide the necessary pitch control authority with the extra weight up front.

That being said, and with all due respect to my POA colleagues, this is the wrong place to ask. Get ye to the Grumman Gang, Grumman Pilots Association, Grumman Owner & Pilots Association, or one of several Grumman-specific Facebook groups as soon as possible for a more knowledgeable answer.

To answer what you really want to know though, I can't imagine a conversion would be cheaper than just buying a Tiger to begin with. That's what I did.

This reminds me of a Harley joke: How do you get 50 more horsepower out of your Harley? Sell it and buy a Suzuki.

The aviation equivalent is: How do you convert a Grumman Traveler to a Tiger? Sell it and buy a Mooney.

I heard somewhere that as Gulfstream American was winding down production, in order to use up parts in the bins, about thirty Cheetahs were built with the thicker Tiger spars. That would make it easy to convert one of those Cheetahs to a "Tiger". Only problem was, nobody kept track of which Cheetahs were so equipped. You'd have to take a micrometer to the spar to be sure.

CapnRon has one of those "Cheetah turned into TIger" mods. I've not flown in that. I've flown in real tigers and real cheetahs.

Cheetah to Tiger conversions are relatively common. Especially if you get a purple glue Cheetah that needs wings - you may as well put Tiger wings on it. I've not heard of people doing Travelers - the value isn't there in the airframe.
