Sometimes it's frustrating for us Alaskans...
"Prices and participation may vary..."
"Not available in all areas..."
Don't get me started on where our nearest Netflix distribution center is...
... Of course, the fact that we get to live here more than makes up for it. B)B)
The point is, I want to start a new "honorable mention" category in the CONUS Challenge, for us Alaskans, Hawaiians, floatplane/helicopter pilots, etc.
I claim Talkeetna, AK (TKA or PATK)!
Description:
The signature specialty of this charming airport is its proximity to the famous Mt. McKinley, the tallest mountain in North America and shining star of the Alaska Range. During the summer season, tourists flock to Talkeetna not only for its small-town charm, gift shops, restaurants, and hospitality, but also to this airport in particular for flightseeing and Mt. McKinley glacier-landings. This is the jumping-off point for McKinley expeditioners, as well. Around the airport in the summertime, don't be surprised to see parties of heavy backpack-laden expeditioners wrapped from head to toe in Gore-Tex and boarding a big taildragger with retractable skis. "Downtown" Talkeetna is an easy stroll from the airport. The runway is paved and of ample size for beginner Alaska pilots.
Whaddaya say, Chip?

P.S. how do I get into the "forums" section? Do I need yet another registration of something?
