I have a homebuilt with a side stick. My radio is a Sporty’s handheld PJ 2. I bought a push to talk switch, also from Sporty’s. It attaches to the stick with a Velcro strap. The switch itself ends up being positioned on the front side of the stick. I need a top mounted push to talk switch. So I bought a stick grip with a top mounted switch built right in. It has two wires coming out of it. The Sporty’s switch has five wires (teenie tiny wires, I might add). Can you tell me how to make this two wire switch work for my application?

The PTT will, one way or another, connect to the microphone jack on the radio. The microphone jack has 3 wires. Tip, ring, and sleeve. The tip is the PTT, the ring is the audio, and the sleeve is used by both of them. Your PTT button most likely is just a SPST momentary switch, so it has two wires that are connected when the button is depressed. One wire goes to the tip of your microphone jack and the other goes to the sleeve.

Here is an article with more details:

The easiest way to make this work with your wiring depends on how your wiring already looks, of course.
