It's my cell phone. Apparently my numbers are so close to everyone else's that I am inundated with wrong numbers. Yesterday I took 3-4 such calls. Typically it's 'Is John there?' and my favorite, 'Who is this?', after they call me!

Grr.
So last night a guy calls and after I answer, there is a pause. I go, "Hullo, hullo?"
and some guy says, "Is Samantha there?" I am slapping my forehead (I know it's yet another mis-dialing).......and it just comes out before I can stop it;

"Yeah, sure she's here, hang on - (pretending to half-shout) Baby, get some clothes on, he wants to talk to you."

If it's all from the same number, you have options. If it's from a range of different numbers, you are just unlucky and there is little you can do about it.

That was you!?

We had a guy from work get fired for bad urinalysis.
He was also selling gas from the company gas card to fund his coke habbit. When they replaced him, the new guy kept getting calls on the crack heads old cell phone from these dope dealers and previous clients of his. Every phone number that kept calling for tjese services, the new guy placed gay personal ads on craigs list with those numbers.
After about a week, the calls stopped.

There might be a way to fix this. Get a google voice number. It's free and you can select any number you want so long as its not in use.

Then set your phone to reject all calls except from GV. Spread the new number and problem fixed.

Btw, you can configure GV to ring multiple phones at the same time. I set mine up to ring my personal cell, my work blackberry, and my home phone when I'm home whenever someone calls my GV number.

Man, I don't know what it is, but we are getting bombarded with illegal telemarketing robo-calls. Thank God for the little button on my phone that send a call straight to the answering machine for screening... so far not one has even stayed connected to hear the answering machine message.

My buddy kept getting calls from a deranged ex of some girl after he got his new phone, apparently the guy was so unstable she had to change her phone number and my buddy was the lucky recipient. I was around a couple of times when the dude called and John would say "Dude, how many times do I have to tell you, this isn't Jenny's number anymore" Finally he just starting going with it and telling the dude all sorts of stories then one day he answered and a female was on the other end, they had a long discussion about her brother's mental instability and asked him if he could please stop with the "stories".

Way back in the day when the yellow pages were how you found something I had gotten a new phone and shortly there after started getting phone calls in the middle of the night for road side service. It turns out that the current yellow pages listed my number as being a 24 hour garage. I went back and forth with the phone company and all the said they could do was give me a new number but by that time I had given to number to a lot of my friends and family and did not want have to go through the hassle of changing it. The calls dropped off when the yellow pages got replaced and it was not so bad. One night around 3:00am I got a series of calls for service and when I told the dude the first two times that he had a wrong number and I did not do auto service. I got fed up and on the third call I told him sure, i'd be there in 45 minutes. He never called back, maybe he ran out of dimes.

Our shop number is just one set of numbers transposed from Putt Putt Golf Courses home office when it was here in Fayetteville.

After taking innumerable calls over the years, I gave in and placed an order for about 10,000 orange golf balls one afternoon...

Bad...I know...:D

On another note...(I really should not admit this but I will)

One of my customers who owns a successful rock bar changed his cell number. A young African America fella was the lucky new owner of the number.

He had received what I know was way more than too many calls when I made the mistake of calling one afternoon...he cussed me up on side and down...very vulgar and nasty thing he said...he wouldn't let me apologize nicely and hang up...

Soooooo....

I sent out a broadcast text explaining my issue with this dude and for about a month...this poor fella was the butt of the joke...I know of one gathering where about 20 folks took round robin calling him...and asking for Shawn...

There were reports of tears and his big brother getting on the phone...

That was about 6 months ago...I just called to check...and guess what...he STILL has that number....

~~~~~. Why is that number funny?
Ah, well, somehow I'm glad I didn't know about it before
I knew a parrot who would mimic that tone and then the rest of the "I'm sorry but the number you dialed....." announcement and then he'd laugh and say "It's complicated"
When my parents moved some years ago, their "new" number had previously been owned by someone named Stanley who apparently owed money to, well, pretty much everyone. For months and months, my mother would get calls asking for Stanley.
Perhaps worse yet, my mother is one of those people who simply cannot ignore a call waiting beep; so quite often, she'd put one call on hold to answer the other, only to find that it was someone calling for Stanley.
One night, when I was talking to her over the phone, she mentioned that the calls had finally stopped, and how nice it was to not be interrupted by people calling for Stanley. So the next time I called, I had a friend of mine at the ready on another phone. Two or three minutes into the call, he called my mother. When she answered, he said, "Hi, this is Stanley. Any messages for me?"
According to my buddy, my mother can do some pretty impressive cussing when she wants to.
Many moons ago, (think the old rotary dial phones) whenever it rained, our phone would kind of half-ring. It was always a store calling for a verification number for a credit card transaction. We would always tell them it was a wrong number, but then one night (under the influence) we started asking for the card number, amount of the charge and then gave them a 6 digit authorization code. This went on for a few months, (it rains a lot in upstate NY) then one time we decided, after getting the customer info, to tell them it was a stolen card - cut it up and notify the police. Never got another call!!
I had a missed call on my cell phone today and called back. It was a vet clinic and I was worried somehow maybe my dog had escaped from my boyfriend's house and gotten hit by a car (my cell phone is on his collar). They didn't have any corgi's so I guess it was a wrong number. I've had the same phone number for probably 10+ years now - no reason for anyone to have a "wrong" number. I perhaps get one twice per year.
Long ago, when I had a landline I changed numbers (have forgotten why). Anyway, soon thereafter I started getting collect calls from someone in prison. Never accepted any - and they eventually stopped. I also used to get calls for a real estate company that had a similar number. Nowadays I use a Magic Jack - and have few issues with it.
Haha that's great! I had a similar call once, random wrong number and the guy very hesitantly asked if the girl was there after I answered the call. I didn't think anything of it and simply said "no". He hung up in a huff.
