Okay, I had a bad day. I needed to do some welding on a trailer and disconnected it from my old truck so as to not energize the truck.. just the trailer. Well gravity took over and the trailer rolled into my new truck.:mad2:

Why is this not comp coverage? The trailer was non powered, gravity driven into my my parked truck. :dunno:

I'm sorry, but there's something ironic about Geico asking an insurance question! :)

The new truck has backup camera, back up sensors, ect. That would have been tough to explain!
No it wouldn't. Just quote Henning. "80% of all people are stupid!" Who amongst us hasn't fitted that description at one time or another?

Just make a damage claim against the Trailer?

Details please? Year/Make/Model? What area of the truck got damaged?

Can I do that to myself?!

2011 Dodge Ram 1500. Tailgate, number, bumper cover, license plate lite, Line X on inside of tailgate. $2,000. Claim was approved and check sent to the auto body shop.

Deductable for comp $250
Deductable for collision $500.

The video would have showed me standing on the jack / tonge of the dump trailer trying to add enough weight to make the jack stand dig in. Needless to say that plan did not work. I've been on a diet and lost 30 pounds. Cost me $500!

I thought you had kids? You should have yelled at em to lay down and make like wheel chocks.

BTW, considering all the gear is yours it would have cost $500 either way.;)

Trust me I thought about it! Lol. ::rofl::rofl:

Now that a bit of time has passed it hopefully seems kinda funny... But... At the time the trailer tongue was playing woodpecker on the rear of your new truck I bet you were besides yourself.:eek::(

After it hit, I just went to the frig and got a beer. :mad2:

After an hour I went to see the damage. :yikes: I estimated $2,000 and it was $1989.46. Add the beer I used to set medicate and we're pushing $2k real hard.

Poop happens. Seriously, I just laughed, and a few cuss words and called my agent. He said glad the trailer was okay. :D

When my Dodge truck was near new, I went to help my BIL unload a particularly rank bull he wanted to buck. We got him in the pen, he came over the side and after me! I ran for the back of my truck and vaulted the tailgate on the ay to the roof. That bull put both horns through my tailgate to the skull, hard, and started yanking the back of my truck around as I'm hanging on to the clearance lights to keep from falling off. This whole time my BIL is on the ground next to his truck and trailer dying laughing. Well that turned tables quick when my tailgate sufficiently shredded that the bull extracted itself and went after him. He went from laughing to levitating his way up the side of his trailer.:rofl::rofl:

That bull had us pinned up there for 15 minutes before he calmed down enough to run him back in the pen chute.

Dollars about right. At my place, gate = $500 with handle and straps, Bumper ~$500 (with integrated hitch and the plate lights), Paint, Line-X, and shop profit will take care of that remainder.

Yeah, with stuff like CCC's EZEst and now Pathways, they can estimate pretty accurately. I worked on that stuff decades ago!

I'm calling Bull on that story. ;)

What happened to your belief in personal responsibility. Why should MY insurance rates go up because you did something stupid?
(This was supposed to be funny, but how knows how it will look in print)?

Why would this not be a homeowner's claim? This happened in your driveway?

The personal responsibility is in paying the insurance premium to begin with. Our own mistakes are 66% of what we insure against when we purchase said insurance, it's one of the covered losses.

First...... I commend Geico for having the guts to admit it on a public forum... If the insurance company bearing his name gets word of this "incident" they might even fashion a commercial from the 'event'.. maybe Geico can use that little lizzard as his Avatar..:dunno: And Henning is correct too about buying insurance.....

I, personally have been driving and buying auto insurance for 40 years and I have never filed a claim.... I have been a homeowner for 37 years and never filed a claim there either.... On all the certifed aircraft I have owned that too has a zero claim rate... Now, my experimental.. if I wreck it ,that baby is all mine... every last shredded piece of aluminum..

Seriously, my girl backed her brand new chevy with backup camera into a mail box last week. She said she did not see it  The dent was a few inches from the camera

Nope, unless it's a golf cart or a boat on a trailer, vehicles on the property will be excluded from a H.O. policy in every state I'm familiar with
Besides, homeowners deductibles are usually even higher. I'd take the auto claim if I could. :)

Next time, go to the mall, shop fro a couple of hours, take in a movie, go to dinner, come back to the truck to discover damage... Call the police and get a Case #

I looked into the homeowner's thing for my own edification. Henning's correct.
Next time, point the trailer at your neighbor's truck. :p

??? Why? It would make absolutely no difference except adding an element of fraud.

Why is it that people don't understand that insurance covers you from your own mistakes as well! As long as there is no intent to defraud and you accidentally cause yourself a loss to insured property, that loss will be covered, it's what we pay the damned premium for, sheez....

My son in law is my agent. He knows shopping is out. ;)

It's all good. Poop happens, no one hurt. If this is the worst thing that happens his year, life is very good. :D

I agree. That is why I said I was just trying to be funny. In the SZ, it is expected that you will spin things in any direction you want.
Conservatives tend to spin things RIGHT.
Liberals tend to spin things . . .

. . . WRONG.

I'm trying to figure out how many insurance claims are filed because someone did something smart.:D:D
At least the story didn't start out, "Hold my beer and watch this"

All insurance is is a legal bet with somebody over an outcome, the insurance company is the house and the insurance commission is the gambling commission. The commission sets the bets available and then negotiates the the odds with the insurance company allowing for 200% gross profits basically. It's a gambling syndicate pure and simple and they have some of the most brilliant oddsmakers I have ever met.
