Common Sense is DEAD

Yep. It's true.

The school administrator backed down after the light of common sense was shined on his little PC power trip.

This is an appropriate time and place for a lawsuit.

The only thing that surprises me is that this is news. "Compliance" and "Obedience" are the watchwords today.

How do you possibly start that conversation with a straight face? Who could possibly feel threatened by this?

Nobody wants responsibility for anything anymore. The schools institute zero tolerance policies to eliminate the need for common sense and to rid themselves of any responsibilites as an administrator. Just yesterday I saw another one of these reports where a 6 yr old had a little Lego gun that fits in the hand of the Lego people. The toy gun was smaller than a quarter. The only danger it presented was a choking hazard. They were talking about suspension from school and the bus.

And these are the people responsible for our schools and teaching our children?? Yikes!!

True, and that needs to be fought.

It would be a good lesson in civics for the children of that school, if all the folks involved in coming up with that decision, agreeing with it, and being willing to implement it, were fired.

:mad2: It's like they've become afraid of their own fear. As stressful as it must be for them to see terror in such innocent things, I guess it's easier than actually thinking critically.

Well, there's that - but doing this kind of thing teaches kids that they should not engage in critical thinking, instead they should follow orders of "leaders" without arguing or thinking it through. Without critical thinking, kids grow up to reflect the political views/morals/orientations of the teachers.

I'll leave it at that, as this thread is already teetering on the edge of Spin Zone.
