This slipped under my radar until now, but about a month ago, the U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee held a hearing on HR2591 (timestamp 39:15 - 53:55), the Mental Health in Aviation Act of 2025. The committee reported the bill favorably to the House floor. The bill would, among other things, require the FAA to implement the recommendation of both the Aviation Workforce Mental Health Task Group (established last year during FAA Reauthorization) and the recommendations of the Mental Health and Aviation Medical Clearances Aviation Rulemaking Committee. These are two separate entities.
The bill has 31 cosponsors, with that number steadily growing. Now that the bill has made it through committee, the full House will vote on it. Notably, it was also discharged from the Aviation Subcommittee, indicating that someone in leadership has taken special interest in it.
