Combat Cropduster

Strafing runs on them boll weevils....what's not to like?

Think A-1 Skyraider... Hell yeah!!

Good to see you here, Brad...I think! :)

Hey, I never got my t-shirt. Hmm I might just have to chase choppers around the grass with my car the next time they come over for a visit.

Okay, maybe not.

As poorly as the 802 handles in the Ag business where you only have to think about the job of flying, I'd hate to fly it into a combat situation. That plane has now buried two of my buddies, one of them was Leland Snow's son in law.

I like their ad for a piloted plane competing against drones:
"– for a fraction of the cost of unmanned aerial vehicle systems."

Until they start killing the pilots, then the cost of replacing them comes into play. I guess if we're gonna give them away to third world air forces it's a good deal.

Looks like a Rad Plane.
What's so dangerous about it, or is it WHAT their doing with it?

It's no Skyraider, not even close. It's slower than a helicopter and even less maneuverable. Might be an okay idea if your opponents don't have any kind of firearms, just spears and sling-shots then it might be okay.

Poor maneuverability and it's slow for a combat plane. How many planes do you know that are 'flaps in, flaps out' for any hard turn? That's the way you fly every Air Tractor, think about how that would work out in an attack mode. It's taken the lives of several good Ag pilots just working Ag.

Exactly, it's not about 'looking rad' or being cheap, it's about getting the job done and being able to keep the pilot alive to do the job again. If I was on the ground calling in CAS, I wouldn't be pleased if I was calling in an 802U because it would have low survivability and chance to to save my butt.

Can you amplify the flaps proceedure for hard turns?

If it were given to me I wouldn't say no. Plus I think tower would think twice about not making me #1 to land

In the the competetion (Light CAS) I would put this at the bottom of the potential winners.

Hell, the AC-208 has a better chance.

I want one of those too!

Hey, just calm down there hot rod! Check your mailbox here in the next week or so! I've been busy and stuff!

If you were on the ground and calling in CAS, you'd be happy with what you get, 802U or otherwise, to keep the booger eaters off your a$$. I've never flown one, so I can't comment on its flying qualities, but if I can't get F-15's, A-10's, F-16's, etc, I'll take what i can get at that point.

Got to agree ...with ~1200 hrs in the mighty Spad!

Can't expound more than "flaps in, flaps out" for every Ag turn. Everybody has the flap switch on the stick grip because you roll them in as you pull out of the field and take them out as you round the top.

I haven't seen much that does better than an A-10 as far as fixed wing goes.

The flaps allow you to make a much tighter turn.

An interesting trick that the old F4F Wildcat pilots apparently used to turn inside Zeros when dogfighting. The flaps in the Wildcat are speed limited, so they would put the flap lever down at the beginning of the fight and as the speed bled off in the turn, the flaps would automatically extend and the turn would tighten. I believe, but can't say for certain, that the design also had the flaps automatically coming back up once speed was picked up again.

mustang pilots would use flaps too, on occasion

Anything is better than nothing and I get the idea that this will be used in areas where Ak-47's and RPG's are the threat.
