When I applied my brake handle yesterday in my 1960 Comanche 180, I heard a snap and the brake handle now just flops up and down, and I have no brakes. Fortunately, it was while prepping for runup and not halfway down a runway while landing... Anyone know how the brake handle connects to the braking system? Is there a cable that snapped?

After some digging, I confirmed there is a cable connecting the brake handle to the master cylinder (part number 21077-00, for those who are interested). Got under the panel today and sure enough, that cable is snapped in two. Would have expected it to break at the ends, but it must have been rubbing against the hole feeding into the floorboard, since the break is in the middle of the cable.

Or the bracket, which also happens. The PA24 service and parts manual are available for download off the web. Handy to have on hand.
