Presidential TFR. Unknown if landing at Peterson or Buckley, local transport and route also unknown at this time. Colorado Springs mayor confirmed visit for Friday - don't know if this will include other regional fires or not (Boulder, Durango, NM, etc). Stay tuned.

Springs mayor also publicly pointed out that the city and surrounding areas cannot provide any support or security - everyone is busy with the fire.

Initial info seems to indicate arrival at Petersen, but be cautious folks. Fire TFRs mixed with VIP TFRs is going to make for a nutty airspace minefield on Friday. And the VIP TFR moves with the Prez...

A friend joked today, "If a fire bomber penetrates a Presidential TFR...???"

Interesting...do you think the F16s based at Peterson would fire on the fire bomber also based at Peterson?

"D. This NOTAM does not restrict any aircraft actively participating in the firefighting efforts for the Waldo Canyon Fire."

they all need to stay away - not take a moment away from anyone doing the one armed paperhanger thing - every local official is working to save a home here or there and some guy comes along for a photo-op looking concerned - not dem - not Rep - stay the f away until they fire is OUT. Then come and show your concern - unless he is going to take a shovel for a few hours - stay away.

I have been there before: grounded in an air tanker because of a presidential visit. I have also flown during VIP visits or within the veil, but only on active fires. Politicians should steer clear while the fire is actively being fought; it's fine to come survey the damage after the fact, but I've seen more than a few times when the governor or other VIP's, including the President, have come to tour the area by helicopter or make an appearance.

Sometimes it's a good thing, in that it results in additional severity funding for the operation.
