Having had smoke in the cockpit I can tell you first hand about "disbelief" of the situation. It takes several seconds to process the info, make a decision, and execute. I think the mind is waiting for the adrenalin to ramp up, or the "a hole" to pucker. Took me an hour to find my shorts.

Great video. I do wish the last panel of text would refer to "throw a nickel on the grass" instead of a nickle. Nickles are nice birds and don't deserve to be thrown to the ground.
