My 8 day clock had digressed to a 6 day clock, then a 2 day clock, then a 5 minute clock. This is in my 195 which is a 97% VFR mission airplane. I bought the current Wittnauer from a sellers table at OSH a few years ago.

Don't want a fancy digital.

Does the local clock repair guy work on airplane clocks? These things ain't cheap. (I am, however).

Your clock is mechanical and can be repaired by any competent watchmaker or clock repair specialist so long as it isn't sealed (and might even be repairable if it is). I can give you a couple references if you can't find anyone local, which would be my first choice. You might check with your local jeweler to see who these for watch repairs.

The Cessna parts aisle of your local CVS pharmacy has a whole lot of kitchen timers, some of them quite small, that will velcro directly onto the face of that RIP mechanical clock and work quite well as a time clock as well as a leg timer and all that good stuff. Of course, I would NEVER consider putting one in my airplane, but I've got this friend Ernie that replaces the AAA battery in his clock about once every 5 years.

Years ago, I sent my 8 day wind-up to Jacobs Instument Repair in Wichita..."the clock doc" as I call him. They overhauled it and after 12 years it still only loses about 3 minutes/week.

I think it was about $175...sure I could've bought a digital for that money but I love the nostalgia of the Wakmann...and, yes, they were made by Brietling.

Every other clock/watch/timer known to mankind is inferior to the 8 day wind-up. The 8 day gives you important information that no other timepiece does. And that is, if you hop into your airplane and it's not running, then it's been too ****ing long since you last flew! :)
