I am a 35 yo Type 1 diabetic looking to start my PPL training soon.

Can anyone on here give me their experiences when going for their Class 3 medical? Any issues/headaches I can expect?

Talk to Dr. Bruce Chien on this board. He is in the AME directory. Do it before you talk to an AME, MedXpress, or anything.

He will help get everything you need to line it up, and make sure you will pass before starting on this adventure.

I didn't know the '5 year rule' before I went to the AME, and now I have to wait...

See http://www.faa.gov/about/office_org/headquarters_offices/avs/offices/aam/ame/guide/media/guide.pdf page 224-226 for what is required. If you PM me, I can send you the "we need more information" letter I received.

See this thread for my experience.

I'm a T1D for the last 44 years, and tried to get a Class 3, but rule #1 on that page stopped me. I had a bad time after moving across the country, but now I'm in better shape.
