Greetings. Back in 2023, I began flight training. After completing a few hours of training, I attempted to obtain my Third-Class Airman Medical Certificate (July 2023), in pursuit of a Private Pilot License. My application was denied (Nov 2023), with the FAA citing multiple sections of CFR 67, including sections for First-, Second-, and Third-Class medical requirements. Since my initial application, life has been quite busy, including the birth of my first child and another on the way. As a result, I failed to respond to the denial letter within the allotted time. I am still interested in pursuing my license and was hoping for some guidance on how to proceed. I have drafted an email to the Regional Flight Surgeon requesting next steps but haven't hit send yet, as I am unsure this is my best course of action. Please help!

Without knowing what the FAA sent you, it’s hard to give some advice. The best possible thing I can suggest is to consult with an AME, Senior AME, and/or HIMS AME to determine what you will need to do to present the best opportunity for an issuance in the future.

You likely don’t want to share the info here and more importantly you don’t want to continue to DIY this.

Give the timing, it sounds like they simply issued you a general denial with no redirect, you're unliekly to get any help as the RFS knows wayyyy to little to help. You need to not DIY this.

Thanks for the advice. I'm still very new to all this so appreciate the input. I have reached back out to the AME who performed my initial exam. Hopefully he can provide additional guidance.

Raize, you are missing one nuance brough up by TCABM. If it's a psychiatry condition you need HIMS AME (consultation). A garden variety Senior AME isn't going to know where/what to do.
