Hello,

I am a current pilot. However, I incurred military service injuries after I became a civilian pilot. I received VA disability after that. After I tried to renew my first class, which included my reporting my VA disability to the FAA, I was denied a first class medical because of Chronic pain, IBS, and fatigue. I got chronic pain syndrome and I recovered from fatigue and got IBS after a military service back injury and long covid that occurred simultaneously. I take diclofenac for chronic pain and bisacodyl for IBS. I do not take any medications for fatigue. I submitted all documentation when I initially applied for a first class medical. All the doctors put in my medical documents that I submitted that all my medical conditions were stable, that I was not on any opioid medication for pain, and that my IBS and fatigue are completely cleared.

I then submitted a letter for reconsideration. But, it has been past 2 months since I requested reconsideration. Do I have a chance to be approved? Does anyone have experience in these areas? How long does it take? What is the process? I have a lot of questions

What happened ? I’m going down the CFS path with the VA and currently hold a 1st class medical.

Interesting there were no updates to this post for a year? I wonder what the final outcome was for the OP.
As stated in a previous post. If you want to fly, stay away from VA.

That’s BS, hire an attorney that specializes in help pilot navigate medical standards. VA disability doesn’t disqualify you from holding a first class medical. You need to jump through the bureaucratic hoops and there are some drugs you can’t take but there’s always a way to get a special issuance. I know several guys 100% VA disabled flying at major airlines.
