Mistake Not...
...just discovered the extra pair of chopsticks from last night's PF Chang's takeout makes eating pickles out of the jar trivial.

I used to, until I found that if I put enough sriracha sauce on the rice, I could get a decent clump on a pair of chopsticks.

There are foods, though, that chopsticks will only work for if you do the "bowl to the mouth and push it in" method, which I think is gross.

Like... I could eat pulled pork bbq with chopsticks, no problem. But how ya gonna eat the beans?

There is a reason why sticky, clumpy rice is served in Asia.

Sticky rice is very good, but the "bowl to the mouth and push it in" method is still very popular in chopstick-using cultures. Same for soup, even though they use spoons.

Using chopsticks for potato chips and popcorn while typing is great - no more greasy fingers, and a slight dexterity exercise! I'd call that win-win.

Depends on which "chopstick culture" you are referring. It is more accepted in Chinese and Japanese cultures. But in Korean culture, it is generally not traditional table manner to hold the bowl in your hand.

That coupled with metal chopsticks can make eating a challenging proposition. For the record I prefer wood chopsticks. The unfinished disposable kind. Finished wood is okay. Plastic less so.

Awesome that you know that.

Metal chopsticks that are no wider than a couple/few toothpicks makes for a good diet strategy.

Wooden are better, but the disposable ones are pretty short. Give me a nicely finished, long wooden pair instead. Don't care for the squared off plastic ones like in Hong Kong, too hard to eat with [especially their not-sticky fried rice].

I have no experience with metal chopsticks, but have seen people use them to arrange charcoal as they are cooking over it.

You know, eating prawn crackers with chopsticks is damn near like eating Cheetos with chopsticks!

I wouldn't say it's necessarily "bad" form to grab them by hand from a shared plate, but it's general practice to grab them with chopsticks. Same with peanuts but Westerners get more slack.

I'm not sure how it happened, but I came pretty good at it. I can pick up individual pieces of rice with ease when finishing my plate.

I figure it's kind of like holding a pencil, everyone has their own way of doing it.

Where do you get prawn crackers? The last bag I saw was in Japan . . .

We have Asian markets here that sell them, plus most local Vietnamese restaurants serve them. But the last time I had some I was in Southeast Asia.

I have no idea what you guys are talking about, but searching for "prawn crackers" on amazon returns a lot of results, 'bout half qualify for prime, and most I can't even read the writing on the bag.

They resemble potato chips except they are thicker, and less dense. They are made from ground shrimp.

Sort of like fried pork rinds but better for you.

 Great thought! says I as I wipe Utz's Crab Chip seasoning from my fingers to my sleeve....

Just order up a bag, they're yummy with great texture, doesn't much matter the brand.
