Made a solo XC from Brown to Chino in the Champ Sunday, mostly to check out the Planes of Fame museum (but yes, I admit I had a ball flying up there).
The museum is as good as you've heard, and there were plenty of non-POF classics hanging around the airport.
I also highly recommend the BLT at Flo's Diner (on the field).
