My son wants me to fly him to Asheville and Chimney Rock. Any suggestions?

Do it.

Rutherford airport is about the same distance, but will be cheaper gas and probably a nominal tie down fee if overnight. It's about 5 miles from downtown Rutherford, NC but Enterprise will pick you up. So will Uber, if you cannot get the courtesy car.

Also, nice on field cafe, Alpha 57.

I flew into KAVL last month and had a decent experience at Signature. They were able to hangar my plane for a week and had the rental car waiting for me on the ramp when I got there. They have quite a few negative reviews on Airnav and other sites, but my experience was fine. There are tie down fees and fuel is not cheap. I think there are some free tie down
spots on the north part of the ramp, though.

Where to fly for the best views.

Grew up just south of there in Spartanburg, SC and took family and friends to Chimney rock quite often. Very nice area to visit in general. You can also try flying over the Biltmore Estate and visit it too if you have time. Asheville is a nice Class C airport and Henderson just to the south.
