Hi

I'm getting ready for my CFI check ride. My FOI expired, but I have a advanced ground instruction. somewhere in FAR/AIM saw that I can use that in lieu of FOI.
cannot find any date limitation on that, which means I got that AGI in 2023.
I was wondering if I still can substitute my AGI for FOI.

Thank you and happy landing.

Congrats on getting ready for your CFI!

You are correct. Training and testing for the FOI is waived if you are a ground instructor.
61.183(e)(1) and 61.185(b)(1). I'm assuming you know about these and just want verification.

I always say, if you are a ground instructor, you are an instructor. For "practical purposes", you are adding on the airplane portion. (Yes...I know it doesn't say that and that's not what it is, legally). There is no time limit to where you must get the CFI.

There's no time limit for using an AGI certificate in lieu of a current FOI written test.
