They were departing KPAO at the time of the accident. According to this article, the weather was certainly questionable.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor said the plane was headed for Hawthorne Municipal Airport in Southern California.

poor. All three Bay Area commercial airports were fogged in before 10 a.m., according to Mineta San Jose International Airport spokesman David Vossbrink, where 16 Southwest morning flights were canceled.

Gregor said taking off in bad weather is left up to the discretion of the pilot, whether it be commercial or private. He added that most commercial airlines have policies to follow before a pilot decides to fly.

The fact that it skidded down the street and hit houses certainly won't help GA.

According to JesseWeather, it certainly wasn't CAVU...

That may be due to smoke/steam from the fire and fire department. Seems like the vis is better in other directions than it is towards the accident scene.

Oh my...

The plane hit transmission lines that are draped 377 feet above the ground near the Dumbarton Bridge. It exploded on impact with the wires, splitting into two pieces and igniting fires at two homes. One of the homes housed a daycare center for 20 children. Fortunately, there were no children there at the time of the crash.

If he had hit the 377 foot power lines near Dumbarton Bridge, he would have crashed into the bridge or the bay, not a neighborhood. It was probably the much lower (uncharted) power lines, which are between the bridge and the airport.

If the survivors of the deceased can prove that this was somehow a business flight tied to Tesla... that is going to spell bad news for what is already a struggling company.

If the deceased were employees and were discharging the duties of their positions at the time of their deaths, it may well end up as a work comp liability for Tesla, which is largely a statutory payout, not a "liability lottery".

Curious. Can you expand on what this means?

What is "discharging the duties of their positions"? Could they be a sales manager enroute to a meeting? Or an engineering manager on their way to check out a manufacturing facility ?

Thanks.
