Cessna 180 near Coles County, IL, 4 fatal

I had read where it was 400’ OVC nearby? If so, operating VFR, investigation could be over soon.

When was this? I remember seeing LIFR on my Metarmap, sad.

Airman registry shows the guy's last medical cert was issued January 2019, and no instrument rating. Bummer.

Arg that sucks. I did see the weather was LIFR yesterday and it was predicted to improve but it took longer than expected. I ended up flying in the evening as a result. Sad.

I get sometimes people taking risks sometimes. I don't get people having friends or family aboard when taking what appear to be crazy risks - intentional VFR flight into what looks like marginal IMC for instance. I always wonder if it's they don't really have a grasp on the risk, or they just don't care...hope it's the former.

It's rather obvious IMC was in play.

Ugh... Looks like there are several orphaned kids as a result of this one, some of them small enough they won't even remember their parents. :(

The good news is they missed those large tanks! Probably would not have punctured, but that small chance of a huge fireball is still scary. With the natural lighting at the time, all the world was dinghy grey.

This happened right in my backyard. The weather was terrible that day. I was supposed to fly a PA46 from that very area on that day and I canceled it. this was a terrible idea by that pilot.
