It says I cannot erase a file from a CD-RW because it is a read only file.
I thought a CDRW was completely manipulable, you could add and remove files at will, whereas the CD-R was a permanent burn or "one-time use".

Read only files have attributes set at the file (not disk) level that flag them as read only. You should be able to change that by right clicking the file, viewing its properties, and changing the read-only attribute to not checked.
