Is there such a thing as a Y cable where two can plug into the hotel's cat 5 cable??

also,
if I run a cat 5 cable off my wireless modem to one computer, will it still emit a satisfactory signal to other computers?

No, but you can carry along an inexpensive router to route the traffic to two computers from the same ethernet port. You can get a decent wired / wireless router for under thirty bucks, most of the time, which will serve nicely. Then you won't need the wire, either.

Yes, it should. The functions are independent.

Edit: here's a cheap one: http://www.justdeals.com/Items/wgr614nar?

And here's one specifically made for travel- small and effective: http://www.amazon.com/Linksys-WTR54GS-Wireless-Travel-Speedbooster/dp/B000A1AQOO

A Y-cable won't work. You'd need a switch, and there's a chance that won't work if the hotel limits you to one MAC address.

Tiny switch:

There are router/hub/wifi access points designed for travel that will do it, even spoofing the MAC address so you can have more than one behind it. I have one from 3Com/NetGear.
