I picked up a couple complete A65-8F engines cheap that have been sitting for decades. hope to have them apart next week. As long as they look OK to my eyes and micrometer I plan on sending crank, cam etc to ASI for inspection / Yellow tagging. They have a nice list of pricing on their website so you can get an idea of costs.

I cant find anything on what Divco or Crank case services charges for them to clean/inspect and yellow tag a set of cases. Anyone have any idea what this runs? Anyone have a preference on who to use?

If the major assemblies come back as good I plan to keep 1 for a possible Flybaby project and sell the other. So if you need some A65 engine stuff, let me know.

thanks,

These folks did a great job on my 0-200 case, cost = $675.00, for cleaning, inspection, lap and line bore. they look brand new.

Why not call and ask what they charge?

For what it's worth, I haven't been real satisfied with the last couple of cases I've gotten back from Divco. Next one I do will probably go to Crankcase Services.

I was going to call when cases are apart, and seem OK by eye. But wanted to see about feedback and general costs.

I have read a few other bad things with DIVCO so maybe Crank case services it is.

Thanks guys.

i have always used divco .if you can use the original crank and just clean it up/flux, you might think about not doing anything . flange ?

Divco has been excellent for me. I chose them because Crankcase Services was awful. A local machine shop had to repair their errors. No company is perfect but the score is easy to keep on my own experiences.

Had a lousy experience with Divco last year. Said all was inspected, sump was bad, all done and into the alodine service. Next thing I know they want almost fifteen hundred for new case bolts. Totally ****ed me off. Would have tipped the scales for doing them at all since I had another option I turned down. Make sure whomever does a complete inspection and ask for details.

The story I've been told is that Divco and CSI are located so close to each other that employees jump back and forth from one company to the other. As such, when one company is poor the other is good and it switches back and forth. At least that's what I was told by a local engine specialist.

The above conversation was started when I remarked that I wasn't happy with the last two cases I had sent to Divco. Both of the cases I had problems with were Lycomings and the problems were in the thrust area. Both required a couple trips to Divco to make things right, which extended the aircraft downtime an extra month. Everyone makes mistakes but two in a row seems a bit excessive to me. I'll try CSI next time and see how they do.

Look up their addresses, they are not that close. just because they are both in Tulsa :) I was at both facilities this spring. Its about a 30 minute drive between the two.

Aircraft Specialities and Divco are a 5 minute walk apart. both on North Sheridan Road. Last Lycoming case I had re-worked by Divco, came back red tagged, I removed the tag sent it to Crankcase services, it cam back like new and is still flying.
