Carol Shelby, RIP

A larger than life guy in many ways. Motor Trend doesn't mention his 8 wives or 2 heart transplants.
 
One of the articles Grant linked to did mention a heart transplant, and a kidney transplant. It may have been a link on the original MT article. It did mention his litigious nature, and several, seemingly controversial businesses.

He was a great proponent of the American racing, and street mod culture. You have to wonder if we'd have some of the great cars around if there wasn't a Shelby in the mix. Also, I wonder how much of the aviation technology Shelby witnessed made it into the automotive. I'm sure there were some.

Eight wives? No wonder he needed so many hearts, and other parts. :eek:
 
I've met him at Oshkosh a couple of times.
 
The vehicles he built and sold are stuff of legends. The 2013 Shelby Mustang promises to be another Shelby classis.
