Wife never has seen Carlsbad Caverns so was thinking about a trip over that way. Looking for any recommendations on car rental etc. Thanks.

That was our first long country family trip. We rented a mini van right from the FBO. Good rate and easy pickup/drop off. Easy to reserve ahead of time. Just gave them my tail number.

We visited there a few months ago. Rented a car from the FBO and stayed at the towneplace suites in town which, in defiance to the photos on their website, does NOT actually have a hot tub. Ate dinner at El Charro which was fantastic. We went in the cave just before closing and the snack bar at the bottom was long closed by the time we got there, so go in earlier if you want to eat down there. Don’t forget you need reservations in advance (not available at the park) to go in the cave (recreation.gov). The cave itself was awesome, well worth the trip. We went back at night for the bat show and enjoyed it, but they’re gone now for the season. Hope you have a great time!

If you’re flying GA, consider a sightseeing detour south, around Guadalupe Peak. The highest point in Texas. It’s the southern end of the mountain formation that includes Carlsbad Caverns to the north.

And then to Alamogordo NM, to see White Sands National Park, which is loveliest at sunset. Enterprise delivered to the FBO, Exile Aviation.

Thanks all for the kind responses. Look forward to getting out to NM in the next 2-3 weeks.

Guadalupe Peak has several great hiking trails, including one that goes to the summit. However, this isn't the best time of the year for that. Maybe if ya'll have a good trip to the caverns you can put Guadalupe Peak hiking on your "Texas To-Do" list.

My only suggestion is don’t walk to the bottom of the caverns and back, and the hop right into the airplane and fly for six hours. Your legs won’t like you. ;)

We did the Peak summit last January. Temps were perfect. Have to watch the winds, though, timing is everything. Budget all day for the round trip hike if you’re not a hiker.

Also visited McKittrick Canyon, which is probably my favorite part of GUMO.
