I've looked everywhere I can think of and cannot find the carb heat box that is installed on my 70 Cherokee 140. The hole that the shaft for the flapper valve is all wallowed out and I don't know of a kit to fix it or where a heat box to replace it can be located. The box is simply a tube open on 4 sides; top to mate with the carb, one inlet for cold air from the cowl, one inlet for hot air from the muff and a dump hole on the bottom.

Can't find a replacement....and don't know where to look.

only image I could find was on eBay

Cause some pop rivets and making a patch is too much work?

OH you want to fix it right. Cut the patch out of 1/8 alum Drill a hole and pop rivet. Make se to pop rivet from the inside out to maintain smooth airflow and so the ball does not fall out and and get sucked into the carb.

You may need one of these

Tried that...they have kits that fit a Continental engine.

to the "pop rivet...too much work" guy....all I want is a kit to fix it. I'll have it repaired if I have to, I just can't find the make of the box to order a kit.

Mine broke where the cable connects (76 Warrior). A&P removed the flapper, took it to a shop and the guy welded it up and re-drilled it and it was back together by the afternoon.

Found a picture finally. This is one for sale ($500) at a salvage yard that has the same problem I have plus a worn cable attachment hole. I'll find someone local to weld it. My network of aircraft fixer people is pretty small right now since I've only owned a plane since June.

Tim, do you have the parts and service manuals for the airplane? Part numbers for everything are in there.

63601-13 maybe
page 3A10 in the 2009 parts manual

If you don't have the books, PM me.

Not a waste of time, good reference for when I can't fix it myself. I appreciate your input. Turns out, all I needed was a simple twenty cent grommet.

Thanks to all.
