As an over-the-road driver, my car sits in the parking lot of a truck stop near my house for a week at a time.

My old car I wasn't too concerned about, but I'd like to keep the new one nice. Mostly worried about the interior, but it'd be nice to have some protection for the whole thing.

Does anyone have any recommendations for car covers?

Thanks,

Ignore the JC Whitney Catalogue. Low quality, fell apart in freezing weather.

Car covers do a great job of letting dust through the fabric or just trapping the dirt on the surface already. Then the move around due to the wind and scratch the paint job. Just keep you car waxed and it will be fine.

Like I said, I'm more worried about the interior. My other car is a fair bit older, but the leather in the interior got brittle and cracked. I've just never seen any interior sunshades that will go all the way around and give full coverage.

I was kind of intrigued by one that had several layers including 1/2" foam rubber to protect against hail.

We do have covers for our airplanes, right? Doesn't anybody have a car cover they like? :dunno:

Taking a non-traditional approach, how about "painting" the windows with the stuff used to make fake snow on storefront windows at Christmas time? Make sure it is easily removed!

G-o-o-g-l-e (froogle didn't work):

Thse guys make them:

Note that Kimberly-Clark is in Appleton. You might be buying from a neighbor.

"Sunbrella" is the fabric Kennon uses on its aircraft covers. Mine has lasted for a decade already.

Like with their covers, I would look for an inner layer that has indents to hold the dirt away from the surface to avoid scratching.

Some non-custom ones at great prices:

I'm gonna have to get one of those for the Mustang.

Here is what I bought for my Audi.

I have had it for 2 years no problems.

I think a car sitting in a truck stop with a cover on it screams:

RIP MY COVER OFF. BUST MY WINDOW. SOMEONE REALLY LOVES ME. THEY PROBABLY HAVE EXPENSIVE THINGS INSIDE ME

But maybe I'm just sore about someone busting into my car.

I thought of that too. It'll be the only car in the whole row with a cover on it. Maybe I should buy the cover, then carefully (so as not to get the inside dirty) trample it on the lawn, run it over with the mower a couple times, etc... :D

Maybe I should put a security camera inside my old car, which is still parked there too, right next to the new one. Haven't touched it except to get some old stuff out. I really should think about selling it.

Wow... $355 for a Sunbrella cover. Ouch. They also said it was for very sunny environments. I'm not sure that describes Wisconsin very well.

I think I'll go with the Technalon. I can get a custom-fit one for $172.

buy a beater to drive there and park. Who cares about the interior of a $500 car???

Well, I do still have the "beater" but I like the new car so much... And driving to/from the truck stop to home is about all of the car driving I ever do. :-( Unless I'm in town for more than a day, I end up being based at the truck stop anyway, mostly because the airport is right over the hill from the truck stop.
