At some smaller airports the tower guy can be an arse about it also. I’ve run into that. Such as Grumman blah blah this is tower. Even same frequency he demanded to be called by whatever role he was taking on. Who has the mental energy to be such a butthead.

Can’t believe someone would think that it’s okay to not only have that attitude, but post online in a public forum expecting sympathy. You are paying for the instructor’s time. That includes your little diversion to save a nickel a gallon.
 
A CFI can't 'make up' endorsements. they're defined in AC 61-65.
That's not true. 61-65 doesn't DEFINE anything. It's a summary of the required endorsements defined in the various regs. The wording is only a recommended example of what to use.
The issue is that if no "endorsement" is required for an operation, not having some invented one is entirely spurious.
