I think your title says it. Presuming these are USB attachable, you can usually plug themin, go to My Computer (presuming you're running Windows), and your camera should show up in the list of disk devices. Just copy the pictures there, probably under the DCIM directory, Safely Remove the Hardware, and plug it into the other laptop.

This is presuming that you don't have memory card slots on the laptops that are compatible with the memory cards you have. If you do, just insert the memory card into the slot and copy away.

Zip em all up and let me know the file size. Maybe I can set you up with FTP access on one of my sites.

You also could open an account on Photobucket or a similar service.

Dave,

What's not clear here is where you want to transfer the pictures from/to. You told us what you have. Where are the pictures now? And where do you want them to be when you're done? Is it between the two laptops?

If so, we can help you network them together (assuming here that they both have Ethernet ports).

You're right, I didn't make it at all clear.
We want to make a laptop to laptop transfer of a couple hundred pictures. Hard to find a cable or usb flashdrive out here. None of the cameras or itouch would allow pics to be placed on them. I won't put itunes on my computer.
I had figured we needed the household router to do a wireless transfer but maybe there is another way to do it directly?
I put both laptops through the Network Setup Wizard but do not see any results from that.
Thanks!

Well flash drives are pretty cheap these days.

To network two computers together (and nothing else) you need a crossover cable or a switch. If you want to do that there is some setup that needs to be done, ip addresses, file sharing and such.

I'm sorry I didn't see an answer to the question of do the laptops have a slot compatible with your memory card(s)?

Yes Joe, that would be the easiest thing but where I am right now, not likely to find one!

Yes, I took the mmc out of the camera and inserted into my laptop, dropped in a picture which it seemed to accept. Then took the mmc over to the other laptop... inserted, and it sees all the other pics but not the one I dropped in.
Even tried to dl the pic from camera via cable - its like that pic is not there. Tried renaming it similarily to the others IMG_1234.jpg -joy not.

That's pretty weird. Did you do the "safely remove device" thing? It's possible the image was not actually written but held in memory.

Joe

Also, if it's important enough I can FedEx you a flash drive tomorrow.

I've never done it, but google Peer to Peer wireless network ... should be able to share files that way.

If both computers have internet access and you have the bandwidth/time, Rich's suggestion is best.

Zip up the files (maximum compression) on Laptop 1.

Go to http://www.yousendit.com or another free "large file transfer" site. Upload the file and send it to your own email address.

Logon to the internet on Laptop 2 once the file has uploaded from Laptop 1. Open your email, follow the link, download the Zip file.

Unzip on Laptop 2; done.

You guys, as usual, are the best. Thanks for your help and offers abv & bey.
I remembered I have a kodak slideshare account and put a bunch up there for safekeeping til I get back.
It was all about having a backup of one group of pics. Shoulda brought the other 4g MMC.
Over & out.
