Came across this.. Quite interesting

Sounds like a high initial investment, how to they respond to snow plows, freezing, water puddles, and what's their lifespan.

Cool idea but I don't see it beyond some rich Prius drivers driveway.

Even if it made sense, currently this country can't even afford to fix a bridge or a pothole. We spent it all on the Middle East and bailing out Wall Street.

I do admire the motivation and effort in materializing such concepts. Hell of a lot more American in spirit than the incessant whining that permeates all facets of social discourse these days. Between the ruler class nixing the proletariat's ability to foster velocity of money, in favor of casino games/shareholder-worship, and the idiot masses empowered to an increasing sense of entitlement to safety in all manners of living, it's refreshing to see people engaged in socially productive endeavors. More power to them.

Wet glass isn't the least bit slippery, either. Crooked roads would be lots of fun in the rain. Oops, a piece broke, now every car going by gets two flat tires, sliced open. No thanks . . .

Oh, in the winter, somewhere snowy like Denver or North Dakota, when the snow and ice on the road melts, where does it run to? There's a foot or more of snow on the side of the road, and what was on the road has melted and run away and refrozen because air temps are hovering around 0°F/-18°C, and liquid water doesn't stay liquid long. Where does the melt from the next five snowfalls before temps approach freezing go? Can you say "ice dam"?

Can you say "pipe dream"? But hey, they got $2 million bucks. Maybe I can post a dream, get some funds and take early retirement.

Scamware. For the feelgood not so smart types. Take it to the spin zone. When they can build solar panels in a factory powered(solely) by solar panels let me know.

Where does it run to now with your solar heated blacktop roads which are just about as efficient at turning solar energy to heat but at a much lower cost?

While the idea is interesting to think about, it is a few thousand percent over sold.

When temps are in the teens and twenties, the snow disentangle run anywhere. It just lays there until it is either pushed out if the way or driven over and crushed into ice that requires higher temperatures to eventually melt. Or lots of salt and traffic . . . Glad to be shed of all that!
