Camas WA (1W1): Fire destroys 14 hangars

A fast-moving fire gutted a large hangar at Grove Field in Camas Monday night, destroying an estimated 14 hangar bays within the E Hangar and an undetermined number of small aircraft parked inside, along with other contents.

According to a post on a regional aviation message board this morning:

I know at least three of the guys that lost airplanes and they were nice ones. 2 bonanza's, a cardinal, and a really nice 180.

Update ... not good. I also heard of a pristine C-140 that was lost.

Journalists there don't know how to write a story that has no need for an emotional, ideological spin to it (I was a Portland resident from 2003-2005). No need to apologize. Still sucks, though. Hope they had insurance.

Always a sad day,feel for the owners. The loss of their aircraft is a very emotional time. Hope insurance covers their loss.

Deputy Fire Marshal Susan Anderson said the fire was accidental and originated in either a power strip or the electrical outlet that it was plugged into.
