Boy, I'd like to get my hands on that nut case.
MIDDLETON (WKOW) -- The Dane County Bomb Squad is on the scene of Middleton's Morey Field airport after a suspicious device was found Sunday evening on airport property.
As of 8:15 p.m. Sunday, Middleton Police said the the squad removed the device to a nearby open field, where it will be "rendered safe." A heavy perimeter of police and firefighters will remain in the area, according to the most recent update.
Middleton Police public information officer Noel Kakuske said between 7:30 and 8:30 Sunday morning, an airport employee noticed a suspicious person around the fuel pit area of the airport. After the employee challenged the man, he left in a black Ford F-150 pick-up truck. Police said the person was reported as male, around 5'7" to 6', with a medium build, dark hair and a beard.
At 12:30 p.m., Kakuske said the same employee saw the same truck near the airport gate before it left, and drove westbound on Airport Road.
At 4:30 p.m., he said someone inspecting the area found a pipe taped to the side of a fuel truck in the fuel pit area, between the main building and the hangers.
Area police and firefighters have closed off the stretch of Airport Road between the Beltline and Evergreen Road. Pleasant View Road north of Evergreen is also closed to traffic.
Since the pipe's discovery, all flights in and out of Morey Airport were canceled. The airport was also evacuated.
