C172 crash at KWHP

The post that showed a diagram of the fuel system of that crashed 172 at whiteman, described the fuel flow out of the gascolator did not realize that those diagrams are for a simple reference and are not detailed, Fuel does exit at the top but internally there is a standpipe that extends down, not quite to the bottom, so as not to pick up debri etc., and the capacity of the gascolator is more than 3 ounces.

“Local residents are continuing to weigh in on the debate on the San Fernando Valley Sun/el Sol’s Facebook page, with some expressing concern over the potential danger of living near the airport…”

Super easy solution- don’t move next to an airport.

That standpipe is the inlet, not the outlet. It carries water and debris down so it doesn't get into the outlet that is up top, inside the screen. Water and dirt accumulate at the bottom, and we sure don't want to be picking up fuel down there,do we?

Whiteman is at risk for closing and this just adds fire to the call for closing...

As I indicated before Tower completely lost track of this plane!

The airport has taken federal grant money. Unless LA County wants to repay the money, AND the FAA agrees, there's a 20 year clock from the date the last grant was accepted.
