C-172, Two Fatalities, Near Columbus Ohio, 4/18

A long runway in the middle of flat fields, I used to go there all the time for gas. RIP.

Just heard the story on local news. Looking at FlightAware it looks like they flew for over an hour at 1500 AGL. Airport is at roughly 1000 MSL. Also looks like they were in a stable descent on the approach at a rate of 350 ft/min. The winds were really gusty yesterday. Rough day to be flying. Will have to wait for NTSB preliminary report.

I was flying at about the same time, maybe a little later? I was in Shelbyville Ind and I thought the winds were very mild? the wind was out of the west but only like 4 kts on the ground when I was flying. Maybe the winds were diifferent in Ohio? It was a very smooth flight home.
Looking at flightaware what were they doing. What kind of flight training was that?
Hate to see that and there goes another 172. I hope they RIP.
This was my flight that night not far from the accident airport.

Yes it looks like their coffee was spiked. Otoh elevation wasn’t erratic

What is being referred to regarding "what kind of flight training was that?" and "their coffee was spiked". Excluding being at 1500 AGL most of the time and that it was windy, I see some touch and goes and some level flight with airspeed varying some, which is not uncommon with turbulence.

I meant that they seemed to just fly around the area randomly? I do not see any touch and goes inless I am looking at the wrong flight path. When I was training we would go to a training area away from the airport.

It looks like your first post had a track for a different airplane (N1975F) that dis 6 touch and goes, hence the confusion?

That would explain it. Different airplane in first flightaware link that was posted.

Oh...I see what you are saying. 1975F is my plane and I posted that to show where I was flying the night of the accident. Sorry for the confusion.

Yikes, it was very windy yesterday, RIP
