I got to wondering, are airplanes based at grass fields likely to take more of a beating than ones based at airports with hard runways? Would something like a Beech Sundowner be likely to have more wear and tear on it as a result of operating from non-paved surfaces?

Well, less wear on tires!

Depends, whats the grass strip like?! Hows the drainage? What conditions are the runways taxiways etc in?

I love the grass strip where my plane is!

Entirely based upon skill of the pilot, and condition of the field.

in the past, i have found airplanes coming off of grass strips to be in overall better shape, usually they are better taken care of, the cost of operatiing from small grass strips is less, more available for the airplane, also no chemical used in winter.
