The sad part is that it was a great little airport for a fun flight to AC. Will never forget taking off headed right for the casinos, similar to flying left base at Meigs headed for the hotel rooms.
No wonder GA is dying when all the fun flying is gone...

Sad. Used to be a football field/stadium there. I played there in a game vs AC HS.

There were some rumors that the new owner of the Revel wanted to by Bader field and re-open it.

I was one of the last folks to land there back in the summer of 2006. Seems like it could have been generating revenue for the last 10 years instead of sitting abandoned. No worries though, AC is still a hole and probably always will be as long as they continue their path of "solid leadership". The Casinos have done nothing to help the city and competition from casinos popping up all over the northeast will only kill it further.

Maybe we need a PoA fundraiser...

The leadership of AC has always been short sighted. First they want the casinos and let them in with almost no commitment to help rebuild the city. So the influx of cash does nothing to help the local area (as was promised it would). Then the casinos do very well for a lot of years, but really only provide low wage jobs, and the city does not get better. The state in the short term gets rich from the gambling. Then the reservations all realize they can do the same thing, and many of the casinos get hit hard. Why should people drive or fly to AC to be at a hotel that is no nicer and does not offer anything better than the casino that is only 15 minutes away.

They need to stop thinking small, and realize that if AC is to recover and grow the entire city needs to be turned into a giant resort town (and you can yell at me for saying this) like Vegas. Now I know there are things like weather that you can never account for, but there are plenty of thing you can do to attract people, and broaden the city's appeal. Not just more stores and restaurants, they already have those things in spades. But build attractions, rides, true concert venues, standing shows, golf courses, winter facilities (ie. indoor walkways, rides, enclosed pedestrian malls between the casinos). And yes having Bader field as an airport there and open could then be an asset. Look at little Ocean City, NJ airport a few miles away, that is a very popular fly in day trip location. AC international itself is very underutilized, and is about a 20 minute drive, so it does not bring people right to the action.

As long as the city remains a dump except for the boardwalk, and marina areas, any small scale redevelopment is doomed.

There is a minor league ballpark. I dont think it would interfere with use of the airport, several 100 feet offset from the runways.

I have to go to AC once a year. The couple of years that Revel was open it wasn't that bad, now I just go for the day.

Are there TFRs with AAAA league games? I thought it was limited to div 1 college and MLB.

Not sure, but I can see it being a risk of ownership... no reason they couldn't just decide one day that the lower league's fans are as worthy of their fake protection as the big leagues. :)

Flew into, Bader field on several occasions, nice field.that the mayor wanted eliminated, due to him living on the flight path,so they built a ball park on the property Ga screwed again due to politics. o

I don't think anyone in their right mind would buy this to operate as an airport.
As for AC not being interested in you if you don't fly a jet, then why are they busing in retirees from NYC and why are the places chock full of 20 somethings in cheap silk suits with purple shirts? It's AC, they'll take you if you ride up on a rusted out scooter.
They have lost out on business by closing the airport. They closed it because they had pipe dreams about another casino, not because it wasn't a viable GA airport. ACY is a ghost town without any meaningful airline service. I doubt the high-rollers are flying in on Spirit from Sanford,FL.

We went down there the weekend before they closed. Four of us piled into the c-172. Walked to the casinos and enjoyed the summer weather on the boardwalk. Bought a little salt-water taffy. Had subs at the White House. We've never been back since. No reason to go there.

Agreed AC is a hole and needs to rot. Had a miserable time last time I was up there

Even when AIY was open, I never went there because Ocean City (26N) was just as close to a boardwalk, beach, taffy, pizza slices, and I don't have to push bus loads of seniors out of the way to do it.

And if I want to gamble, OC has $.10 skeeball.

3 more months and I can get my Manco & Manco's, and Kohr bros!
