Building a zenith 750

Does a light sport require the same annual inspection as a regular airplane does?
Depends on how the light sport aircraft is certificated - and it the type of certificate that makes the difference, not if it meets the requirements for light sport or not.

The Zenith 750 appears to fall under the E-AB rule which means an annual condition inspection by the original builder (or one of the original builders) with a repairman's certificate, or an A&P.

Other light sport aircraft are different. If it was certificated with a "standard" certificate, it's no different than your Cessna 310. E-LSA you can get an inspection rating with a 16 hour class (or let yer A&P do it). S-LSA you need the maintenance rating which is an 80 to 120 hour class.

Only the original builder can get the Repairman Certificate for the airplane he built. It does not extend to type.
