Not the first time something like that was done. Some B-26s were returned to service for a similar function in the Vietnam war. They also experimented with
modified P-51 Mustangs for Ground Support. Here is a link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piper_PA-48_Enforcer The Enforcer lost out to the OV-10.

I was stationed at Eglin tower when two Enforcers were evaluated there for 2 months I believe. They were very cool looking, basically a P51 w/ a turbine engine. I have some pics I took of them but who knows where they are. Always wondered what happened to them and now I know. Be a cool plane to have for fun!
