The owner is local and sadly the dead guys are from my home town. Don’t know the two thief's but know of the airplane owner. Supposedly one of the guys came to look at the airplane to purchase a few days before. Guess he liked it.

They had over a mile of runway, so flaps or no flaps, they should have (and evidently did) become airborne.
