Bird Strike on Takeoff?

Dad hit one in the mid to upper teens in a Viscount back in the 60's. Bottom left corner of the windshield, blood and guts covered him. They went back and sealed the windshield. Back then the PIC meet the passengers when they arrived. He had the SIC to it.

Wow, a Viscount!

Back in the 70s, when jet airliners had already largely replaced turboprops, windshields were tested with a cannon that fired a chicken (not live) at cruise speed. Don’t know if that’s still done to test airliner windshields. For sure such a cannon would ruin my small plane.

Flight school I’m at had a bird strike with a student at the yoke (instructor on the right side) last evening, in the plane I was scheduled to fly. Instructor said it happened at a landing flair, and looked like somebody smashed a ketchup pack on the windshield- on a 172. They stopped, cleaned the mess off, and completed the lesson. Must have been a small bird.
At least, I got to fly a plane with the bugs cleaned off the windshield
