President Biden is expected to nominate Mike Whitaker, who served as the Federal Aviation Administration’s deputy chief during the Obama administration, to be the agency’s next permanent leader, people familiar with the matter said.
An official announcement by the Biden administration about Whitaker’s anticipated nomination had recently been expected as soon as next week, these people said. They said the plans haven’t been finalized and could change.
From 2013 to 2016, Whitaker served as deputy administrator at the FAA. During his time at the regulator, he focused in part on upgrading the nation’s air-traffic system.
