Looking to go to Chicago area for a week and need a place to park a Cessna 172. Any suggestions?

From my experience: the FBOs at Gary have some hangar space, but won't guarantee it will be available when you arrive. Lansing has cheap fuel and endless tie downs, but no FBO or transient hangar space.

C56 is an option too. It's similar drive south as Gary. Call ahead though. My understanding is they will rent to transients when they have private hangars available. In my 2 years being based there, they were never full, but that could have changed.

KDPA. Not sure you’ll get hangar space at 06C (it’s quite full… however you could try - new FBO is awesome).

If you have money to burn, KPWK.

If you’re all out of luck, you’ll definitely get space at KARR & KDKB.

50 miles can easily be a 2 hour drive in the Chicagoland area with traffic, why do you need a hangar as well? I’m guessing for a week that will cost you $700. My airport (KUGN) has free outdoor parking at the self service fuel pump, cheapest fuel is at KBUU ($4.69/gal currently). You can Uber or bicycle to the metra and train into the city or Uber the entire way ($70+). Check the train schedule as it’s probably every half hour or so. DM me for the gate code to access the ramp if you decide to go this route or call the number on the gate.
