I have been using Sony RX10 for the last 3 years and it has been great for aerial photography. It can zoom from 24 mm (very wide) to 600 mm (super long telephoto), and has great image quality.
I wrote a mini review here, in case anyone is interested:

If others want to chime in with their recommended cameras and lenses, please do.

Very nice. Looks like a very capable machine.

For casual shots out the windows I use a Sony RX100, first edition. 28-100 mm, lightweight, pocket sized, running about $475 on Amazon. Later editions of the RX100 have greater focal length range, but cost two to three times as much.

im going to run out of popcorn when the nikon vs cannon war starts............................

Haha. Plenty of room for discussion. As a member of PAPA, there are all kinds of good cameras out there. The operator is more important than the camera most of the time. I run both Canon and Nikon depending on the job and the circumstance, and lenses are important, too.

Nikon and Canon are both very capable. The photographer skills are more important.
