Hope they all swam to Uruguay unless they had the correct Argentinian visa . . .

Citizens from plenty of countries don't require a visa to enter Argentina, including the United States.

If you get in with an American passport you will be charged an entrance fee, which if I'm not mistaken, is equal to the fee the United States charges for a visa if you are Argentinian travelling to the US, but without the hassle of losing a day at the embassy.
