Beech 55 Baron Down, Lancaster Mill, SC, 7/1/26, All Survive

The second engine took them to the scene of the crash, perhaps.
That would be a pretty poorly managed engine failure in a Baron at the kind of weight they would have been at that point.

Is what’s left of that airplane upside-down, or am I imagining it wrong?

Looks like it, but after clipping trees, and then burning, can't tell when it gained that orientation. Yeah, they'd be really light at that point, but at night, where do you aim if things aren't going your way? Mostly woods, with residential next, then a few open fields.
Except for the six thousand foot runway of Lancaster County Airport, about 4 nm west ...

RIP, my insurance rates

At least they live to suck another day.

Prelim Rpt for N7501S

At 0046, the crew declared an emergency and advised air traffic control (ATC) services that they were going to divert to Kirk Air Base Airport (T73), Lancaster, South Carolina, due to issues with both engines.

First responders reported that the pilots were outside of the airplane before they arrived and there was no information as to which seats the pilots occupied. Therefore, it is unknown which pilot was manipulating the flight controls at the time of the accident. Both pilots received severe burns and were transported to a hospital burn unit for treatment.
