Ever since we started talking about the RDU BBQ I have had BBQ on the mind. I can’t make it to RDU but EXX is having a festival this weekend. Yes I said Festival! Lots of famous “Lexington-style” BBQ! I am planning on going. Are there any other takers in the area?
Here are the details:
Here are the details:
Several Mooney pilots in the "Mid-Atlantic" area are planning on flying down to Lexington, NC (KEXX) for the B-B-Q Festival on Saturday, October 27, 2007 (tomorrow).
There will be a shuttle from the airport to the Festival in downtown Lexington. The cost will be $5.00 per person (round-trip). HOWEVER, if you put in a fuel order with the FBO before leaving on the shuttle, the shuttle fee will be "waived!" The FBO told me that fuel would be discounted 15 cents per gallon tomorrow, making it $4.30 per gallon.
For the return trip, you apparently go back to the shuttle drop-off point at the Festival, and get transported back to the airport.
It's a 15-person van, which leaves "every hour on the hour."
I talked to the lady who runs the airport with her husband, and she suggested that folks shoot for the 11:00 AM shuttle run if you want to ride over as a group to avoid any possible 12:00 noon "rush."
Therefore, all should be "on the ground and tied-down" by 11:00 AM to catch the 11:00 AM shuttle as a group.
Of course, many of the B-B-Q restaurant vendors will be set up at Festival selling their famous "Lexington-style" B-B-Q, which, of course, is the reason for going there in the first place (other than a good excuse to fly).

The FBO phone number for KEXX (Carolina Aero Service) is 336-956-7774.

Hope to see you there.
