Battery questions

No clue, they put a new one in when I bought it 10 months ago.

Gotcha, didnt realize the plane itself was new to you.

What beautiful planes! My instructor flies one, hoping he takes me up for fun of it sometime!

This is what I use on my 24v Aztec battery.

Oh, you have one of them fancy new Aztecs with the 24V system. Mine was 12V. ;)

Austin, it sounds like the firewall mounted battery is the way to go. However if you wanted to look into issues with your current battery, I’ve found that the terminals at the end of the various wires carrying power to the starter are usually to blame.

Remember on a Continental that slow cranking is very bad and can cause a kickback which can break your starter adapter. Fast cranking speed on your engine is important.

50 years of corrosion in old copper cables isn't anyone's friend, either.

Small battery/short cable spin rates are really good. The only place they suffer is duration. Learn what it takes to fire the engine as quickly as you can, but that should always the goal. Guys have hand propped airplanes for 100 years using slow spin rates and short duration. :)
