I know this is common but had a couple questions. My Cherokee 180 has a Gill artery that has given up the ghost and we are replacing it with a sealed Concorde unit. There is some corrosion on the box and around the drains in the empennage. I will be removing the battery box and all associated corrosion and neutralizing with baking soda. My question is if it is acceptable to use the Randolph acid proof paint on the empennage areas around the battery box or should I really be using zinc chromate?

This paint is not a primer. If you have bare metal, I'd use some approved primer, either zinc chromate, a self-etching, or two-part epoxy. Then you can use your paint.

I'd get a mechanic to look at it. Your metal might be seriously eroded by the acid and need replacing. Priming or painting with acid-proof paint will not restore the strength.

When you can remove the parts, have them cleaned and powder coated.
