Narco Engineering does it again. On the Escort II, the power/signal connector on the back panel uses a single-sided 13 pin pcb edge connector with 0.156 (4 mm) pin spacing. I could use a double-sided 26 pin connector and just leave one edge unconnected, but I can't find a source for either of them anywhere.

Anybody got a lead on a couple of them?

Thanks,

Jim

Why would you want to connect two (or more) bastards? Does it make it easier to keep track of them?

Instead of looking only at the distributor's catalogs, you could try the manufacturers, to see if the product exists. Amphenol is one big manufacturer. Not sure who else.

Thanks,NoHeat, but y'know, I'm sort of a professional on this board. Amphenol is one of the sources. Amp is another. Molex is another.

Somehow Narco found a source that isn't one of the big 3 and I'm trying to find where they found this bastard connector. NOBODY has any links to this connector so far.

THanks,

Jim

Quite possible they had a proprietary connector made so you had to get it from them.

EDAC makes a dual row 26 pin connector that would work if anyone still stocked it:

Like you, I couldn't find it in stock anywhere.

I was pretty sure I could help you because I made up a test harness for a Narco nav/com a couple of months ago and was able to get the connectors from Digikey. Alas, they are 2x12, not 2x13.

Another option would be to try to find an old tray or cable harness at Faeth Aircraft Parts.

I have an extra Narco nav 11A rack if that would help?
it has the connector.

Hey Weird Jim, this is off topic but since you're a professional on this forum, would a fiberglass fairing added around a transponder antenna harm it's efficiency?
Thanks.

Thanks.

Like everything else in aviation, and McCain's underwear ... Depends.

A LOT of fiberglass VERY close to the antenna will act as a dielectrically loaded antenna and lower its resonant frequency. A SMALL amount of fiberglass VERY far away from the antenna will not have a measurable effect.

If you are talking a THIN fiberglass fairing about the size of a baseball, the answer is that it will not harm the frequency OR the efficiency to any measurable degree.

How's that for a weaselword answer?

Jim

.

Great answer Jim. Was going to make a tiny airfoil as long as the antenna and about 2" front to back. Sounds like that will be fine.

Sorry for the thread creep folks.....

Carving it out of balsa or basswood would be a lot easier than doofing around with fiberglass.

You can't just draw the edge card in Eagle (or...) and send it to a board house? Never mind. You need the connector half. Doooh!
